This morning I was reminded of a scripture verse, “Every good and perfect gift comes from above….” Remember that verse?
Funny how some thoughts come to you all at once. And in less time than it takes to think it through, you have the message! So, in much more time than it took to get the message, I’m going to try and put it into words for you.
I’ve thought often, and spoke often about being thankful to God for all the little blessings that come our way. When the above verse came to mind this morning, I saw all at once how the “little” or “natural” blessings could be labeled as some of the “good” gifts that come from above. They may not be thought of as perfect, but they are good. As an example, when the light turns green just as you approach it, that’s a good gift from above. It’s not perfect in the sense that the next light might be red! But still, it is a gift and we should acknowledge it as such. (Another thought along that line might be that the red light is holding you back just long enough to avoid a mishap up ahead. Who knows?)
I’m talking about small conveniences that occur that we don’t give a second thought to. Have you ever been chilled to the bone when all of a sudden the furnace comes on? Or perhaps being chilled to the bone you’re able to put your finger exactly on the sweater you’re thinking of finding. I know, these are really little things, but these are exactly the “good” things of which we should be aware. I remember years ago of one of my teenage friends, giving testimony in church one Sunday, that she prayed the floor would be warm when she got out of bed, and it was! I’m sure you can all name hundreds, literally, of little things that could be cataloged as “good”, to which we give little thought.
It will take time, but if we are serious about it, we could get into the habit of thanking God for the “good” things that come our way hourly! Actually, in doing this, we could become more God conscious, which is a very good thing!
It’s still early in the New Year. We could make it a resolution that this year we will ask the Lord to make us aware, and, therefore, grateful for the blessings that fall around us. What do you think ? How many “conveniences” have come your way today? I’m thankful for the bump in the road that my husband was able to avoid, this morning, before it jolted my back!
We serve a mighty God. He is so worthy of all our praise. Let’s not miss ANY opportunities to give Him His due! And hey, aren’t you glad that you can dance? Even if you can’t do it physically, you can have a dancing spirit!!!
Pat
